Both the Col de Sarenne and the Col du Galibier are now open. At time of writing it is possible to ride to the top of the Galibier but not pass over the top, you can however go through the tunnel just a little lower down. Our first guests will be climbing it next week as part of our fully booked Marmotte Big Col Tour. Due to popular demand we have organised a shorter version of this tour commencing on the 7th September 2012.
Cycle hire is also available for the Col du Galibier through PROMPT.CC of Bourg d’Oisans
Great news – The Col du Glandon is now open for the summer. Despite the static signs saying otherwise the large electronic boards are indicating it is open. This was also confirmed in the PROMPT shop today by a group hiring our bikes.
To celebrate the open take a look at our Col du Glandon photos on Flickr

While a couple of guys here training for La Marmotte in July tackled the out and back route to the Col du Glandon and Col de la Croix de Fer the rest of our group of 9 tackled the 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez. As always we time everyone up the climb and add it to our Alpe d’Huez times. Tomorrow we are heading off on the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon route.
Photos from our day 1 ride to La Berarde for our group of 8 here for a long weekend Tour of the Oisans stay. Balmy temperatures of 32 C greeted us on this out and back ride. On our way back from La Berarde we stopped off at the cafe for huge chunks of Quiche and gallons of Orangina. The perfect start to a new season here in the Oisans.
Despite the huge amount of snow we have had the Col de la Croix de Fer has opened for the summer of 2012. Happy days
We have had a lot of late snow here in the oisans this month. While we had a group of dutch guys here training for alpe d’huzes in june we went up to the top of alpe d’huez for a spot of sledging.

Tackled the Alpe d’Huez Triatlon route (minus Alpe d’Huez) over the weekend with one of our guests who stayed with us on our Tour of Andalucia holiday in March and popped over to stay with us in the Oisans at the weekend. He is training for the La Marmotte in July so I took him out on this route. We have had a lot of snow recently up high so the top of the Col de la Morte felt more like a winter wonderland.
We have 4 entry only packages for the 2012 La Marmotte. You canbook them directly online here.
Due to cancellations we still have some accommodation left on our tour week. Click here for more information.

While we were away for a week running our Tour of Andalucia holiday the snow has disappeared very quickly here in the Oisans. I have done a couple of cycle rides training for a forthcomming Sportive in April and the weather has been truly beautiful. Climbs like Alpe d’Huez are obviously open all year along with the other climbs such as the Col d’Ornon and the Col de la Morte. The big climbs such as the Col de la Croix de Fer and Galibier are still very much snow bound and will be well into May and June. There is still plenty of riding to be had here and we have a fair few guests staying with us at the end of March and into April. Check out Enjoy Oisans for all self catered cycle hire and bed and breakfast accommodation in Bourg d’Oisans.

bit like buses this one you wait ages for a bus and then 2 turn up at once. Anyway 2 days after completing my february attempt up Alpe d’Huez i took advantage of the warmer spring weather and completed my march ride of Alpe d’Huez (30 seconds faster than tuesdays ride !) no doubt I will be up there again this month but the next big climb will be the Pico de Veleta in spain as part of our Tour of Andalucia.
While at the top of Alpe d’Huez i took this photos of the skiers.
To celebrate my 43 consecutive month of Cycling up Alpe d’Huez we have published a load of our Alpe d’Huez photos from our new flickr account. More to follow over the summer.
For the record my time up Alpe d’Huez was a relative (for me) slow 70 minutes.
Since riding Alpe d’Huez in January we have had a super cold snap that has meant it has been impossible to ride a bike so other than a couple of spin sessions at centreparcs on a family holiday my training for our 2012 Cycling holidays has been rather thin on the ground especially as we are off to Andalucia Spain next week for our first organised cycling holiday of the year.
We have just had our energy supplied in for the year. This year we will have High 5 and Clif Bars available in the house. We are trying to get a bigger selection of bars by different manufactures for 2012.
For the record the 33km training ride took me to Allemont over a few small hills.
We have secured 10 single rooms as the Belle Aurore hotel in Alpe d’Huez for a weekend stay to compete in the La Marmotte 2012 event. The 10 rooms all come with a guaranteed entry.
- Self supported 3 night stay in the Belle Aurore Hotel in Alpe d’Huez.
- Single room on a Half board basis with guaranteed entries and secure bike storage.
- Free WiFi
- Arrive on Thursday the 5th July. Get your race number and signing on pack on the 6th July. Compete in the La Marmotte on the 7th July. Depart on the 8th July.
- Limited to 10 spaces
- The package is £549GBP per room
- If you wish to bring a non riding partner we can provide a twin room for an additional £100GBP. If you wish to upgrade to the twin room please make the booking as normal and let us know in the ‘notes’section of your booking
- PLEASE NOTE ONLY 1 ENTRY PER ROOM.
It was a beautiful sunny winters day on sunday with the temperature just nudging above 4 degrees, so I decided to tackle Alpe d’Huez for the 41st consecutive month. Alpe d’Huez had a lot of snow recently but it has only reached down to bend 8 of the famous 21 bends.
I took these photos at the finish line.
The next big climb I will be doing is the Pico de Veleta in Andalucia at the begining of January (2600 metres)
It appears that the official organisers of the La Marmotte have sold out of their single entry packages for the event. I time that at about 36 hours which must be some sort of a record.
Still looking for an Entry ?
