We are running a special La Marmotte Training Long weekend starting on the 8th September 2012 for 4 nights.

Day 1 will consist of a warm up ride to La Berarde.
Day 2 Will take in the Col du Glandon and Col du Telegraphe before an overnight stay in Valloire
Day 3 Takes in the Col du Galibier and Alpe d’Huez.

While a couple of guys here training for La Marmotte in July tackled the out and back route to the Col du Glandon and Col de la Croix de Fer the rest of our group of 9 tackled the 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez. As always we time everyone up the climb and add it to our Alpe d’Huez times. Tomorrow we are heading off on the Alpe d’Huez Triathlon route.

Photos from our day 1 ride to La Berarde for our group of 8 here for a long weekend Tour of the Oisans stay. Balmy temperatures of 32 C greeted us on this out and back ride. On our way back from La Berarde we stopped off at the cafe for huge chunks of Quiche and gallons of Orangina. The perfect start to a new season here in the Oisans.

We have had a lot of late snow here in the oisans this month. While we had a group of dutch guys here training for alpe d’huzes in june we went up to the top of alpe d’huez for a spot of sledging.

Alpe d’Huez Triathlon Route

Tackled the Alpe d’Huez Triatlon route (minus Alpe d’Huez) over the weekend with one of our guests who stayed with us on our Tour of Andalucia holiday in March and popped over to stay with us in the Oisans at the weekend. He is training for the La Marmotte in July so I took him out on this route. We have had a lot of snow recently up high so the top of the Col de la Morte felt more like a winter wonderland.

March in Bourg d’Oisans

While we were away for a week running our Tour of Andalucia holiday the snow has disappeared very quickly here in the Oisans. I have done a couple of cycle rides training for a forthcomming Sportive in April and the weather has been truly beautiful. Climbs like Alpe d’Huez are obviously open all year along with the other climbs such as the Col d’Ornon and the Col de la Morte. The big climbs such as the Col de la Croix de Fer and Galibier are still very much snow bound and will be well into May and June. There is still plenty of riding to be had here and we have a fair few guests staying with us at the end of March and into April. 44th Consecutive month of cycling Alpe d’Huez

bit like buses this one you wait ages for a bus and then 2 turn up at once. Anyway 2 days after completing my february attempt up Alpe d’Huez i took advantage of the warmer spring weather and completed my march ride of Alpe d’Huez (30 seconds faster than tuesdays ride !) no doubt I will be up there again this month but the next big climb will be the Pico de Veleta in spain as part of our Tour of Andalucia.

First training ride of the year in the Oisans

Since riding Alpe d’Huez in January we have had a super cold snap that has meant it has been impossible to ride a bike so other than a couple of spin sessions at centreparcs on a family holiday my training for our 2012 Cycling holidays has been rather thin on the ground especially as we are off to Andalucia Spain next week for our first organised cycling holiday of the year.

We have just had our energy supplied in for the year. This year we will have High 5 and Clif Bars available in the house. We are trying to get a bigger selection of bars by different manufactures for 2012.

For the record the 33km training ride took me to Allemont over a few small hills.

December Cycle Ride up Alpe d’Huez

It was a beautiful sunny winters day on sunday with the temperature just nudging above 4 degrees, so I decided to tackle Alpe d’Huez for the 41st consecutive month. Alpe d’Huez had a lot of snow recently but it has only reached down to bend 8 of the famous 21 bends.

I took these photos at the finish line.

The next big climb I will be doing is the Pico de Veleta in Andalucia at the begining of January (2600 metres)

Marco Pantani Sportive is no more long live the LA GRANFONDO LES 2 ALPES

The Marco Pantani Sportive held in neighbouring Les Deux Alpes ( and a great alternative to the La Marmotte Sportive) has had a name change for 2012 and will now be known as the La Granfondo Les 2 Alpes. The event takes place on the 26th August 2012.

The sportive starts and finishes in Les Deux Alpes and includes the Col d’Ornon, the Col de Parquetout and the Col de la Morte plus some of our very own Traverse d’Oisans.

We are now down to our last 5 free La Marmotte entries for 2012. To get hold of one of these all you need to do is book our Andalucian Cycling Holiday in Southern Spain in March 2012. The entries are free until the 31st November 2011. After this point we will be charging 60GBP per entry only if you book the Andalucian Holiday. As part of the week we will be riding the Pico de Veleta that climbs to the same height as the Col du Galibier. Get a headstart in your La Marmotte Training on similar terrain in super warm weather.
