We have secured 10 single rooms as the Belle Aurore hotel in Alpe d’Huez for a weekend stay to compete in the La Marmotte 2012 event. The 10 rooms all come with a guaranteed entry.

Details

Self supported 3 night stay in the Belle Aurore Hotel in Alpe d’Huez.
Single room on a Half board basis with guaranteed entries and secure bike storage.
Free WiFi
Arrive on Thursday the 5th July. Get your race number and signing on pack on the 6th July. Compete in the La Marmotte on the 7th July. Depart on the 8th July.

December Cycle Ride up Alpe d’Huez

It was a beautiful sunny winters day on sunday with the temperature just nudging above 4 degrees, so I decided to tackle Alpe d’Huez for the 41st consecutive month. Alpe d’Huez had a lot of snow recently but it has only reached down to bend 8 of the famous 21 bends.

I took these photos at the finish line.

The next big climb I will be doing is the Pico de Veleta in Andalucia at the begining of January (2600 metres)

It appears that the official organisers of the La Marmotte have sold out of their single entry packages for the event. I time that at about 36 hours which must be some sort of a record.

Marco Pantani Sportive is no more long live the LA GRANFONDO LES 2 ALPES

The Marco Pantani Sportive held in neighbouring Les Deux Alpes ( and a great alternative to the La Marmotte Sportive) has had a name change for 2012 and will now be known as the La Granfondo Les 2 Alpes. The event takes place on the 26th August 2012.

The sportive starts and finishes in Les Deux Alpes and includes the Col d’Ornon, the Col de Parquetout and the Col de la Morte plus some of our very own Traverse d’Oisans.

This means we have passed all the requirements set out by the organisers of the La Marmotte event and they are happy for us to sale entry packages for them.

Free La Marmotte 2012 entries

We are now down to our last 5 free La Marmotte entries for 2012. To get hold of one of these all you need to do is book our Andalucian Cycling Holiday in Southern Spain in March 2012. The entries are free until the 31st November 2011. After this point we will be charging 60GBP per entry only if you book the Andalucian Holiday. As part of the week we will be riding the Pico de Veleta that climbs to the same height as the Col du Galibier. Get a headstart in your La Marmotte Training on similar terrain in super warm weather.

Galibier Beer

Whilst in Valloire recently I came across a fantastic beer called Galibier Beer. Its brewed in Valloire which for those that don’t know is at the bottom of the Col du Galibier.

We will hopefully have some for our guests in 2012 !!!

Col de la Croix de Fer for the Tour de France 2012

The 2012 Tour de France will be passing over our local climbs the Col du Glandon and the Col de la Croix de Fer both of which are easily reachable from our base in Bourg d’Oisans.

The 11th stage covers 140KM on the 12th July 2012. We will also be riding this stage as part of our Cols of the Tour de France Week in June.

No Tour de France for Alpe d’Huez but….

Based on leaked information from the official Tour de France website there will not be a Tour de France finish for Alpe d’Huez in 2012. The closest it looks like it will be is the Col de la Croix de Fer or the Col du Glandon both of which are easily reachable from our base in Bourg d’Oisans. More info to follow (plus details of our Cols of the Tour Week) once the route has been officially announced on the 18th October

Col du Galibier October Tour

During our last tour of the season our autumn Tour of the Oisans we took in the mighty Col du Galibier and its little brother the Col du Télégraphe. The days ride starts after a 2 hour drive from our base in Bourg d’Oisans. Once at the top of the Col du Télégraphe we set you off with a 100 km supported return ride to Bourg d’Oisans via the Télégraphe, Galibier and Col du Lautaret.

Photos from the first 3 days of the Tour of the Oisans week. So far this week we have covered the Col de la Croix de Fer, Alpe d’Huez, Col de Sarenne, Col du Télégraphe and the Col du Galibier – pretty much the whole La Marmotte Sportive route over a more manageable 3 days. At time of writing we still have some spaces left for our last holiday in October at the special rate of just 199GBP per person
