On a perfect autumn day in the Oisans the challenge was to find the mountain bike trail down the Col du Galibier – think Tour de France. A plan was hatched -
- Pack road and mountain bike in the minibus
- Drive to the Col du Lautaret
- Drop the road bike off with Helen to look after
- Drive van up to the top of Col du Galibier (2650 metres approx)
- Ride down the Ancient Galibier Road
- Meet Helen at the Col du Lautaret and swap over to road bike
- Ride up the Col du Galibier to pick up the van
- Drive back down the Galibier
- Meet Helen at the Lautaret and have a coffee
- Sleep well that night
Well I did it the descent was fantastic – you can find out more here – apparantly the Tour de France used this route to climb up the Galibier in 1911 – so we are now offering it too our guests. The 8km climb up the more traditional route was also fantastic.
